This exhibit depicts the anterior cut-away view of the uterus with an ectopic pregnancy. Each month, a developing follicle undergoes maturity and ruptures. Once ruptured, ovulation occurs and the mature egg is released form the ovary, moving down the fallopian tube, and is ready to be fertilized by the sperm. The next step is cleavage which is a series of mitotic cell divisions, causing the multicellular organism to begin to develop. The multicellular organism is then implanted early within the fallopian tube which is characterized as an ectopic pregnancy (outside the uterus). Female anatomy highlighted in this view includes teh ovary, corpus albicans, corpus luteum, epithelium, epithelial cells, cilia, and the uterus.
