This animation shows the coronal view of a baby's brain and highlights the germinal matrix. If the baby's blood pressure increases then the capillary vessel of the germinal matrix will dilate, thinning the vessel walls. The vessel will eventually rupture, causing blood from the germinal matrix to pool in the lateral ventricle and lead to compression of the surrounding brain tissue.
