Methotrexate Injection for an Ectopic Mass

An animation depicting the anterior and sagittal views of a female uterus receiving a methotrexate injection for an ectopic mass. Structures in these views include the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. The ectopic mass consists of placental tissue, blood, and fluid. The methotrexate injection causes the placental tissue to gradually shrink and the patient's hCG levels decline as the ectopic mass dissolves. If the ectopic mass does not completely dissolve, surgery may be required to eliminate the ectopic mass.
