This medical exhibit shows the sagittal view of the abdomen with the progression of stercoral ulcers. The ulcers worsen, resulting in erosion through the muscular wall of the rectum. A perforation of the rectum then allows fecal matter and air to leak into the soft tissues between the rectum and the sacrum.
