Sepsis from a Diabetic Foot Wound

This animation displays the anterior view of the mechanism of sepsis from a kidney and liver infection. Bacteria enters the bloodstream from a diabetic foot wound, leading to a systematic sepsis event. The body's macrophages destroy the bacteria, releasing toxins into the bloodstream that spread throughout the circulatory system, liver, and kidneys. Sepsis then spreads to the kidneys and liver in which they can no longer function properly, leading to organ failure and causes a buildup of toxins and bacteria in the bloodstream.
