The Development of Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy (PVR)

The Development of Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy (PVR)

A medical illustration depicting the development of proliferative vitreopathy (PVR) in the eye. A PVR can occur through the invasion of bacteria into the choroid layer leading to an endophthalmitis infection which causes inflammation to the adjacent retina. The retinal infection then worsens, creating multiple retinal holes and inflammation spreads into the vitreous. Antibiotics are administered and the choroid infection is destroyed, but the inflammation in the vitreous worsens, resulting in a retinal detachment.
